Drum Circle Magic

Just finished drumming with the seniors at Marymount Hospital.  It never ceases to amaze me the power of drumming and how it brings people together.  It also triggers memories in older folks.  I had them tell me about when they played piano or other instruments.  One guy used to play stand up base and another used to sing in the choir.  It is great connecting with these people. 

Drumming at Marymount Hospital

I am going to be playing drums with the seniors at Marymount Hospital today and am looking forward to it very much.  This is something I have been called to for a long time and it is coming to fruition.  It is hard to come up with words that describe how I feel after connecting with someone who might have Alzheimer's or dementia.  It is possible to connect to somebody at a different level than verbal communication.  When you hand somebody a shaker or drum and show them how to play it and look into their eyes you make a connection that can not be made at any other level.  I hope it goes well because I want to keep doing this. 

Connections

I played drums with the seniors at Metro Hospital yesterday.  One of the ladies told me about her grandson who is a drum builder in Colorado.  His name is Tim Dumbrowski(sp?) .  I would very much like to contact this person just to close this loop.  If you know who he is please have him contact me.

It has been a while since I put anything here.  It has been a busy time.  A job moved away from me, I found a job and lost a job.  I am doing volunteer work with my drumming at Metro hospital and am trying to get more experience doing that.  Drumming is a special joy and if I could get paid to do it I would be so happy.  I am bringing joy to the seniors at Metro just by being there and communication with them.  Also they bring me joy especially when I make contact with somebody who is inside themselves and not looking around.  I had a special time last week when a lady told me all about Dezi Arnez and Xavier Cugat at the ballroom in Cleveland.  I am going to play at Marymount Hospital on the 23rd and looking forward that very much.
